Guide
Commission-free online ordering for restaurants
Commission-free online ordering means customers order from your restaurant's own ordering page, and the software provider takes no percentage of each order. Instead of losing 20–30% of every order to a delivery app, you pay a flat monthly price. With Platovo that is $79.99 a month with 0% commission; card processing is charged separately by Stripe.
What "0% commission" does and doesn't cover
- No per-order platform fee. Ten orders or ten thousand, Platovo's price is the same.
- Card payments still cost something. Stripe charges 2.9% + C$0.30 per domestic card payment in Canada. Every card processor charges; delivery apps usually build it into their rates.
- No drivers or marketplace. Customers pick up, or your staff deliver. You are not listed in an app beside competitors, so direct ordering works best for customers who already know you.
What it saves: a worked example
A restaurant takes C$10,000 of online orders in a month, averaging C$40 each (250 orders).
| Delivery app at 25% commission | C$2,500.00 |
|---|---|
| Platovo plan | C$79.99 |
| Stripe card fees | C$365.00 |
| Platovo total | C$444.99 |
| Kept by the restaurant | C$2,055.01 |
Before taxes. 25% is the Plus plan delivery commission at both Uber Eats and DoorDash in Canada. Try your own numbers or compare each app's rates.
How Platovo works
- 1
Import your menu
Upload a photo or PDF of your menu, or point Platovo at your website. Review every dish, price and option before anything is public.
- 2
Make the page yours
Add your logo, colours and photos. Set pickup times, delivery areas, fees and minimum orders, and your opening hours.
- 3
Connect Stripe and test the kitchen
Card payments go to your own Stripe account. Pair an Android tablet with the Platovo kitchen app and send a test alert before you switch ordering on.
- 4
Share your link
Put your ordering link on your Google Business Profile, your website and social profiles, receipts and bag stickers.
When an order arrives it takes over the kitchen tablet with a sound that repeats until someone accepts it, and the customer is told when it is confirmed and ready. See the kitchen app.
Who it suits
Independent restaurants, cafés and takeout counters in Canada and the United States with regulars, phone orders or a website of their own: the customers who would order from you anyway. If almost all of your orders come from people discovering you inside a delivery app, keep the app for those and use your own page for everyone else.
Moving customers to your own ordering page
- Google Business Profile
- Add your Platovo link as your order link and website link. Many people decide from Maps, so this is where a direct order is most often won.
- Your own website
- Make "Order online" go to your page, not to a delivery app. A button that sends people to an app pays that app for customers who were already yours.
- Every delivery-app order
- Put a card in the bag with your link or QR code and a reason to order direct next time, such as a first-order discount.
- Regulars and callers
- Customers who phone in are the easiest to move: they already know you. Text or email them the link, or read it out on the phone.
- Win them back
- Platovo can email a personal offer to customers who haven't ordered in a while, and turns a dish or special into social posts and emails.
Questions restaurants ask
Does Platovo take a commission on online orders?
No. Platovo charges 0% commission on online orders. You pay a flat $79.99 a month plus applicable taxes, however many orders you take. Card payments are processed by Stripe, which charges its own fee (2.9% + C$0.30 per domestic card payment in Canada). Cash orders carry no processing fee.
Are there any other Platovo fees?
No setup fee and no per-order fee. The only other Platovo fee is 0.4% on optional custom invoices (for example a catering invoice you send and the customer pays by card).
Where does the money from an order go?
Card payments go to the restaurant's own Stripe account, and Stripe pays out to the restaurant's bank account. Platovo never holds your order money.
Does Platovo deliver the food?
No. Customers pick up, or your own staff deliver. You choose your delivery areas, fees and minimum orders. If you rely on delivery-app drivers, you can keep those apps for delivery and use Platovo for pickup and your own delivery orders.
How do I get customers to order from my own page?
Share your ordering link on your Google Business Profile, your website and your social profiles, and hand it to regulars. Platovo also makes branded emails, social posts and flyers from your menu, and win-back offers for customers who have not ordered in a while.
How does my kitchen get orders?
New orders take over the screen of the Platovo kitchen app on an Android tablet, with a sound alert that repeats until someone accepts. A browser dashboard works as a backup, and select Epson printers can print tickets.
How long does setup take?
Import your menu from a photo, a PDF or your current website, review the dishes and prices, choose your colours, and publish as soon as it looks right. We can also set it up with you on a call.
Can I cancel?
Yes, any time. The first 14 days are free and no credit card is needed to start.
