How to add an "Order online" button to your restaurant website

Add a button labelled "Order online" near the top of every page and link it straight to your own ordering page, not to a delivery app or a PDF menu. On Wix, Squarespace and WordPress this is a normal button or link block; paste your ordering page address as the link.

Where the button should go

  • At the top of the home page, visible on a phone without scrolling. Most restaurant visits are on phones.
  • In the menu on every page, as "Order online".
  • On your menu page, above the menu. If your menu is a PDF, put the button beside it, or replace the PDF with a link to your ordering page, which always has current prices.

On common website builders

  1. Wix

Add a Button element, set its text to "Order online", choose Link, select Web address, paste your ordering page address and set it to open in the same window.

  2. Squarespace

Edit the page, add a Button block, enter "Order online", and paste the address as the link. In Site Header settings you can also turn on the header button.

  3. WordPress

In the block editor add a Buttons block, type "Order online", select the link icon and paste the address. Add the same link to your main menu under Appearance, Menus or the Site Editor.

  4. Any other site

Ask whoever manages it to add a link to your ordering page with the text "Order online", in the header and on the menu page.

Mistakes that cost orders

  • Linking to a delivery app. You pay commission on customers who had already found you.
  • A "nofollow" on your own ordering link. Some templates add it to buttons. It tells search engines not to trust the link; remove it for your own page.
  • Only a picture of a button. Use real text, so search engines and screen readers know what the link is.
  • An out-of-date PDF menu. Prices change; your ordering page is always current.

Platovo customers: the Direct ordering links section of your dashboard has ready-made button code for Wix, Squarespace and WordPress, and a link that counts orders from your website.

Then do the same on Google: add your link to your Google Business Profile.

Questions restaurants ask

Do I need a new website to take online orders?

No. Keep your current website and point its "Order online" button at your ordering page.

Should the button open in a new tab?

Either works. Opening in the same tab is simpler on phones, where most visitors are.
